What is a Septic Drain Field?

At a simplified level, your septic tank takes waste from your toilet and puts it through a filter that sorts between the solids and liquids. Solids stay in the septic tank, but the liquids are placed into a "void" in the soil. This void is a drain field usually constructed from dirt, gravel, and other material. This gives space for the septic liquid to naturally drain into the soil.

We provide multi-pipe and infiltrator drain field systems.

How Do I Know if My Drain Field Needs Repair?

Your drain field will need repair or replacement when it no longer holds water correctly. If you have mushy ground near your septic tank or standing, foul-smelling water, it is likely time to replace your drain field or septic system. Drain fields are most often damaged by:

  • Lack of maintenance
  • Old age
  • Bio mat and other growths preventing proper drainage
  • Tree roots clogging the line
  • Overwatering the ground, which backs up the system
  • Disturbing the ground, such as driving over the drain field
